I tell my kids not to get me anything - and I mean it. They will, though. Neither one of them has extra cash and I would REALLY be happy as can be if we just sat around, drinking martinis and playing Jenga all day.
It's not just the gift-giving though. It's the whole WAR ON CHRISTMAS bullshit that comes out this time every year. There is no war on Christmas. No one has ever scowled at me for saying Merry Christmas. I've worked with Muslim and Jewish women and none of them have ever been offended by the greeting. It's a made-up thing by a group of people who call everyone else a snowflake, then work overtime to be offended by everything they hear.
Merry Fucking Christmas, everyone.
And also to you! (Christmas is not my favorite thing. It could be if it was just martinis and games, though.)
ReplyDeleteIt was great when my kids got excited over shampoo in dinosaur-shaped bottles, but those days are long past.
DeleteThank you, and a happy fucking New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on New Year's Eve...
DeleteI love Christmas, but mine has always been a martinis and Jenga kind of holiday (at least my favorite memories of it are).
ReplyDeleteAnd that war on Xmas BS goes hand in hand with the idea that Christian's are persecuted in the US. No, Christians in Iraq or China are persecuted. Just like whites and white men, we are not. Not.
Kate said she's bringing a new game called Munchin and promises we'll all like it. (Minchin? Mnuchin? Something like that.)
ReplyDeleteThe goal of Mnuchin would be to rig the banking systems to line your pockets while turning the other players out of their houses, and forcing them to beg in the streets. Then you get to go work for the White House, and travel to beautiful places, with your Barbie/Ken doll spouse. Really fun game.
DeleteI hear you on all accounts. Christmas to me is work. And worry. And a cluttered living room. And cold. And going to church Christmas Eve when I don't like going to church ever.
ReplyDeleteThe war on Christmas? Yeah, there is no war on Christmas. Although staying away from Facebook would likely limit my exposure to those kinds of sentiments.
Given that NZ is very secular, we still have Christmas, and say happy Christmas. It doesn't have the same religious meaning here. I shift between wanting to ignore it and enjoying the hype.
