Czesława
Her pictures have been in my facebook and twitter feeds. Her name was Czesława Kwoka. Fourteen. Polish. Jewish. Her Auschwitz mug shots have been recolourized, bringing her back to life. Look into her frightened eyes, knowing there is nothing you can do to lift her from that place and save her from that horror.

Oh my goodness. The emotion that comes from reading this, and then seeing her photo. It's so personal, especially as she looks like a favourite cousin.
ReplyDeleteShe's so amazingly average. I think that's what gets to me. She could be your neighbour, your cousin, your daughter.
DeleteHeartbreaking. The only good thing is that her mother died first. I'm feeling like a ditzy blonde for writing all my frivolous blog posts.
ReplyDeleteSo many mothers who were powerless to protect their children. It's horrifying.
DeleteI can't go there (to the photo).
ReplyDeleteThat's why I didn't put the pictures on the post.
DeleteYes, I have seen that photo before. Probably on Facebook. The things humans do to each other. It makes no sense to me and I'd rather die than have it make sense.
