Books

Nothing through my years in elementary school - absolutely nothing - could compare to the days that the order forms for the Scholastic Arrow and Tab book clubs arrived. Nothing. We pored over those order forms at recess, comparing which books we would get, how many we could afford, who we should team up with so we could share our new purchases without duplicating. We had one week to make our decisions, and in that week the forms would become so dog-eared and smudged that we often had to ask for a new for on order day. The books, when they came in, were wonderful - like Christmas! But they weren't quite as magnificent as the new order forms.

  1. I was allowed 3 books each time. It was this strange exception to my parents frugality . And three books meant the free poster!

  3. I remember being exciting when Scholastic Books started being a thing, but I don't remember the books, so maybe they got to my school (or NZ) after I left primary school. I also love the wonder of the order forms. And new books regularly? That's exactly like Christmas.

  4. Wonderful! I still have some of my Scholastic Books. Read them, carefully, to the boys. The pages are so fragile.

  6. I'd forgotten about the order forms and books too--until my first-grader grandson came home with them this year. The joy of it! But I don't think my classmates and I cooperated about our choices, possibly because my closest friends went to a Catholic school.
